Each and every taxpayer has a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). It is a tax processing number which is provided by IRS. Any U.S taxpayers, who do not have tax identification number and are eligible for Social Security Number (SSN), may apply for the TIN issued by IRS. If one wants to be eligible for IRS tax identification number he/she must have filings requirements and a valid federal income tax return. It is a nine digit number and always starts with 9. IRS tax identification number is used for tax reporting purpose only. It is not for any other purpose. Tax identification number does not authorize work in united state.
